One of the largest transshipment hubs in Greece and the Mediterranean region, Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), has upgraded in terms of TETRA infrastructure: As a long-standing user of an ACCESSNET®-T IP radio system from HMF Smart Solutions, the PCT has now modernised its TETRA infrastructure with a comprehensive software update and the purchase of a new DIB-R5 base station, thereby additionally expanding capacity and radio coverage.
The Port of Piraeus is one of the largest ports in Europe and the largest port in Greece, with a global top 30 ranking in cargo. The port handled 5.44 million standard containers in 2020 alone. Communication via the TETRA radio system is an important part of this for occupational safety and ensuring an efficient and smooth workflow.
Around the container handling area, various organisational groups communicate via ACCESSNET®-T IP and Hytera radios (PT580H Plus and MT680 Plus): for example, the staff in all areas of loading and unloading, the administration team, staff involved in quay facilities operation, the security staff, technicians and maintenance teams, among others.
In addition, with PTTconnect, the port management uses the smart PTT-over-Cellular (PoC) solution from HMF Smart Solutions in order to communicate with individual employees and groups from the ACCESSNET®-T IP TETRA radio system outside the network range via the direct IP connection using smart phones. PTTconnect therefore enables radio coverage to be extended almost indefinitely.
In the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), the ACCESSNET®-T IP radio system has been modernised with a software update and its capacity and radio coverage have been additionally expanded with the installation of a DIB-R5 base station. Throughout the process of container handling, various organisational groups in the port communicate via the TETRA system with radios from Hytera. The PoC application PTTconnect is also in use.
