How can 5G campus networks be better protected against cyber attacks and unforeseen incidents – this is the question HMF Smart Solutions, as consortium leader, is investigating together with four partners in the new “COBRA-5G – Container-based resilient architecture for 5G campus networks” research project.

The research project is funded by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in the “Cyber Security and Digital Sovereignty in 5G/6G Communication Technologies” program and is designed to run for 18 months. The overall project aims to gain new insights into the behaviour of intentional and unintentional disruptors in a 5G campus network, to build a detection system from which AI-based defence mechanisms against cyber attacks and physical attacks can be developed.

For HMF, the focus of the work is on “Detection and defence against jamming and cyber attacks on 5G infrastructure”. To achieve this, the HMF team (pictured) is building a jammer to perform a range of jamming tests. In addition, the HMF’s own 5G campus network is being used for the COBRA 5G project, among other things. “We are delighted to be leading this exciting research project as consortium leader, alongside great partners. We are hoping for significant results around the topic of security of 5G campus networks,” says Dr Amina Ayadi-Mießen, overall project manager and 5G expert at HMF.

All the information and news around the project can be accessed at any time on the dedicated website www.cobra-5g.de. The research group will also be presenting COBRA-5G at PMRExpo 2023 – Europe’s Leading Trade Fair for Secure Communications (28 – 30 November 2023 in Cologne).
