The Balearic Agency for Digitalization, Cybersecurity, and Telecommunications (IB Digital), along with SAMPOL and Tradia—a Cellnex Group company—has formalized the award of a contract for the supply, installation, commissioning, and updating of TETRA stations for the security and emergency network of the Balearic Islands.

This four-year contract, valued at nearly EUR 7 million, was awarded through a public tender to the Temporary Joint Venture formed by SAMPOL and Tradia. This JV has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of this security and emergency network since 2013. Under the new contract, they will also install new base stations (TBS) to meet the coverage needs of various user fleets, including Local Police, Civil Protection, Medical Care Services, and Firefighters, among others.

Jose Valero Romero, Commercial Developer at Cellnex Spain, highlighted the significance of IB Digital’s continued trust in Cellnex. "The importance of IB Digital once again entrusting Cellnex with the operation of the security and emergency networks of the Balearic Islands, this time also for the installation of new equipment, underscores our capability. These networks require a very high level of continuity, which we can offer thanks to the excellent team of Cellnex professionals in Spain and the ensemble of infrastructures deployed both on the peninsula and on the islands."

Miguel Cardona Pons, Managing Director of IB Digital, emphasized the critical nature of the TETRA stations service. "The service of TETRA stations aimed at offering secure communications managed 24×7 to serve public administration personnel with security and emergency responsibilities in the Balearic Islands is vital for the rapid response necessary in emergency situations."

Cellnex boasts extensive experience in managing safety and emergency communications networks and services. Its mobile radio systems, with more than 1,300 base stations, serve over 98,000 users, including police officers, firefighters, forest rangers, and healthcare personnel across Spain. Notably, Cellnex recently renewed its contract with Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) to provide radio communications service through its Network of Coastal Stations, ensuring permanent listening 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across a responsibility area of 1.5 million km².
