The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department, one of Finland's 22 regional rescue services, has successfully implemented a failsafe critical communication backup network through a collaborative project with Northcom and DAMM Cellular Systems.

The new system ensures that seamless critical communication is maintained with Kymenlaakso rescue departments and paramedics, even in exceptional situations where traditional networks might fail.

The necessity for this project arose from the need for a reliable backup network that can provide uninterrupted communication within the region during exceptional situations.

Based on DAMM’s reliable and robust infrastructure, the solution, chosen for its ease of deployment and operational efficiency, offers standalone communication capabilities that function independently if the main network is compromised.

Key features of the DAMM solution include:

  • Ease of deployment: Quick setup without the need for central server systems.

  • Effortless transition: Re-establishes communication seamlessly without human intervention.

  • Seamless operation: Standalone or connected network modes ensure uninterrupted service.

  • Full functionality and uncompromised security: Comprehensive services with no capability restrictions, even in the case of isolated nodes, serving as an effective backup to the existing network.

Phase One of the project, which includes the installation of four DAMM MultiTech BS422 base stations, has been completed successfully and is operational.

The Kymenlaakso team expressed its appreciation for the system and the support provided by Northcom. "We are very pleased with the result of our collaboration with Northcom and DAMM. They provided us with a rapid, effective solution for every technical challenge we faced. The system's simplicity and flexibility are remarkable, making it perfectly suited to our needs."

This project underscores the commitment of Northcom and DAMM to enhancing safety and efficiency through innovative communication solutions. The new system not only boosts the rescue department's preparedness and response, but also sets a benchmark for future emergency communication projects.
