New Zealand’s Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) has finalised the New Zealand Spectrum Outlook 2023 to 2027, previously the 5-Year Spectrum Outlook, setting out RSM’s forward vision of radio spectrum management and the trends it sees. RSM is grateful to everyone who provided submissions on the draft outlook in 2021, saying this feedback was considered in the final document. RSM is also working towards making the 24–30 GHz radio spectrum available for long-term use around May 2026. As part of this work, RSM intends to conduct a technical working group (TWG), planned as a virtual meeting in early November 2023. During the TWG, RSM will share its current understanding and ask stakeholders for specific feedback on use cases, technology choices, radio system performance and spectrum requirements.

RSM is now inviting expressions of interest from industry members to join the TWG, in order to ensure that the participants of the TWG represent the relevant industry sectors while being able to have a focused technical discussion. RSM has noted that it may not be possible to accommodate all those who express interest.

Expressions of interest should be emailed with the subject ‘EOI from [Entity Name] 24–30 GHz TWG November 2023’ to radio.spectrum@mbie.govt.nz. Emails should be sent by 5 pm NZDT (3 pm AEDT) on Friday, 13 October 2023 and should contain:

• the entity name;

• individual(s) name(s) and job title(s) (two participants per entity); and

• a statement to prove direct relevance to 24–30 GHz, justifying your involvement.

   

RSM will provide further details on the exact arrangements for the TWG ahead of the meeting.
