AT&T is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Agnew as the new President of FirstNet, effective September 1, 2024. Agnew, a seasoned leader with over 24 years of experience at AT&T, will succeed Jim Bugel, who is retiring after more than 31 years of dedicated service.

Agnew steps into his new role with a strong background in public sector mobility and leadership, having most recently served as Vice President of FirstNet and Public Sector Mobility. Throughout his tenure at AT&T, he has held various key positions, including Area Vice President, Director of Business Development, and Global Account Manager. In his new role, Agnew will oversee all aspects of the FirstNet program, leveraging his extensive experience in both mobility and wireline corporate initiatives.

“FirstNet is at the forefront of first responder communications, and I am honored to lead this exceptional team,” said Agnew. “We will continue to support America’s first responders during disasters and everyday emergencies, building on the strong foundation laid by my predecessor, Jim Bugel.”

Jim Bugel, who has been instrumental in shaping the FirstNet program since its inception, will retire on September 1, 2024. Bugel’s tenure as FirstNet President, which began in October 2022, followed a distinguished career leading strategy, policy, and implementation efforts for public safety initiatives. His leadership was pivotal in bringing numerous innovations to the FirstNet program, including Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) with Land Mobile Radio (LMR) integration, FirstNet MegaRange, and the Compact Rapid Deployable (CRD) solutions.

“Jim Bugel’s legacy of unwavering commitment to the public safety community will continue to inspire our work,” Agnew added. “We are committed to advancing the network and ensuring that our first responders remain mission-ready.”

AT&T thanks Jim Bugel for his extraordinary contributions and looks forward to the continued success of FirstNet under Scott Agnew’s leadership.
