Following an evaluation process in France, Finland, Germany and Spain, Airbus Public Safety and Security was awarded the Committed to CSR label for the first time in December 2024 by AFNOR, the French national standardization organisation.

Delivered according to compliance with ISO 26000 standards for social responsibility, this label demonstrates that Airbus takes responsibility for the impact of its actions and commits to sustainable development in the scope of its business. It also ensures that we conduct business ethically and transparently and that our activities make a positive contribution to society and the environment.

The evaluation, in which Airbus Public Safety and Security’s employees, Executive Managers, customers and partners took part, is based on four levels of maturity: Initial, Progression (one star), Confirmed (two stars) and Exemplary (three stars). We immediately shot to Confirmed level in the first assessment, which is extremely rare. It usually takes five to six years to reach that level according to one of the expert assessors.

By applying for a CSR label, Airbus has advanced from self-declaration to objective recognition by an accredited third party of our commitment to sustainable and responsible practices for environmental, economic and social issues. What is more, the first chapter of the CSR Label framework engages the organisation in reflection on its values, vision and purpose. This initial reflection pointed to the fundamentally CSR nature of our business. Our overarching purpose of ‘Connecting those who protect us’ and collective mission to ‘Support customers in their critical missions to prevent crises, protect lives and restore damaged communities and ecosystems’ are inherently socially responsible. The labelling process thus shed light on our contribution and strengthened employees’ commitment to our raison d’être.

Among our winning features, using eco-design to change existing products, integral to Airbus Public Safety and Security’s strategy, reduces our environmental impact. For example, redesigning products to reduce weight, or save on materials, energy and space. The audit also observed that our employees, who work closely with their customers in 80 countries, are highly engaged in the assessment process, demonstrating a strong commitment to transparency and sensitivity about CSR issues.

With the AFNOR Committed to CSR label, Airbus also joins the network of the Responsibility Europe label. The label is valid until December 2027 for our Elancourt (France), Helsinki and Jyväskylä (Finland), Ulm, Sulzbach and Berlin (Germany) and Madrid (Spain) sites, pending a follow-up assessment in 18 months.
