The Red Cross in Vorarlberg, Austria is switching from analogue technology to digital radio. For this purpose, around 350 radios have to be replaced in the local offices and ambulances. In addition, more than 70 radio base stations have been installed nationwide.
The changeover has many advantages according to Michael Hrach, who is responsible for the radio infrastructure at the Red Cross. On the one hand, the voice quality will improve, on the other hand, Austria-wide communication is now possible. Now also with the fire brigade, water and mountain rescue as well as with the police.
The Red Cross has paid around 50,000 euros for the switch from analogue to digital, where the state of Vorarlberg has provided the infrastructure, including more than 70 base stations. The necessary radio masts were set up in such a way that sufficient radio coverage can be guaranteed.
