L3Harris Technologies has announced the expansion of its mission-critical-to-X (MCX) portfolio, offering a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that includes mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical data (MCData), and mission-critical video (MCVideo).

James Potter, L3Harris’ Director of Global Product Management and Strategic Solutions, emphasized that the Two47 MCX Software Platform is the result of years of meticulous planning and development.

“We initially integrated an MCPTT client into our XL radios a few years ago and have been successfully operating on the Southern Linc network for several years,” Potter stated. “Late last year, we expanded this to FirstNet. Now, with the addition of an MCX server, Android and iOS clients, and a Windows dispatch console, we provide a complete, end-to-end MCX solution.”

This holistic approach distinguishes L3Harris from other providers in the market, many of whom offer only partial MCX solutions.

“We’re proud to deliver one of the most comprehensive MCX solutions available,” Potter added. “While some competitors provide only servers or soft clients, we offer a fully integrated suite, including soft clients, Windows compatibility, and convergence with our XL devices.”

Bringing decades of expertise in mission-critical Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, L3Harris is committed to ensuring that MCX meets the rigorous demands of mission-critical users.

“Our objective is to make MCX function seamlessly for mission-critical communications, replicating the reliability and user experience of P25 while enhancing it with broadband capabilities,” Potter explained.

To achieve its complete MCX portfolio, L3Harris acquired MCX server and soft-client technologies from Ericsson, a recognized leader in MCPTT services. Ericsson’s technology has played a key role in supporting Southern Linc, a wireless carrier serving the Southern Company utility’s vast network across the southeastern United States.

“As utilities deploy private LTE networks, they require an LTE-based, standards-compliant push-to-talk and video solution,” Potter noted. “MCX is the perfect fit for these applications, and we’re engaged with multiple customers beyond Southern Linc.”

L3Harris officially launched the Two47 MCX Solution at DistribuTECH 2025 in Dallas, aligning with growing interest from utilities seeking mission-critical communications on private LTE networks they own and manage, rather than relying on public carrier systems.

“The key differentiator is trust—utilities need a network they can depend on for mission-critical operations,” Potter concluded. “Many utilities view MCX as a long-term investment, potentially replacing their LMR systems as part of a broader strategy to consolidate business applications on private LTE infrastructure.”
