The NSW Telco Authority is proud to support Sydney Trains by delivering reliable communications infrastructure that helps keep New South Wales on track and passengers safe.
At the core of Sydney’s rail network operations is the Rail Operations Centre — the nerve centre where critical decisions are made to manage daily services and respond quickly to security incidents. A key enabler of this capability is the Public Safety Network (PSN), a state-wide mission-critical radio communications system managed by the NSW Telco Authority.
The PSN uses P25 digital radio technology, providing secure, priority communications that allow security coordination teams to respond swiftly and effectively. This robust platform ensures Sydney Trains’ security operations staff can maintain situational awareness and take decisive action whenever required.
Across the rail network, more than 800 P25 radios are deployed to support everyday security operations, giving personnel clear and dependable voice communications throughout the system. This level of connectivity plays a crucial role in keeping passengers safe and connected, particularly in high-traffic urban environments.
“Strong communications are essential — when communication is strong, the trains — and the city — stay on track,” said a spokesperson for the NSW Telco Authority. “Our work with Sydney Trains and other critical service partners ensures that frontline responders have the resilient tools they need to operate safely and efficiently.”
The PSN is one of the most extensive critical communications networks in the world, serving emergency services, government agencies, and essential service providers across New South Wales.
